CBD Testimonials
Most of the convincing evidence on the benefits of CBD comes from civilian testimonials rather than scientific experiments. Many would like to see more studies on CBD happen, but the government has restricted its testing for a long time.
Testimonials often show that people have found success with CBD when they found it nowhere else. Unfortunately, CBD testimonials aren’t considered official proof of its benefits.
A Testimonial in the Spotlight
CBD testimonials have frequently become news stories, like Wired magazine’s July, 2015 article, “Boy, Interrupted”. It details one father’s turn to CBD after all other attempts to ease his son’s seizures ended without success.

In this case, the boy in question, Sam, was having up to 100 seizures a day. He and his family had spent seven years visiting hospitals and neurologists, with little success at stopping the seizures. At the end of their rope, Sam’s family decided to try something they’d heard might help but was, at the time, almost impossible to get- CBD.

The big problem: Sam was unable to get the CBD pills in the States. His family had to wade through red tape, spend thousands of dollars, and eventually travel outside the U.S. just for him to try them. The family…

Will CBD Show Up on a Drug Test?

Drug Test Woes In today’s job market, drug testing is fairly common. One of the most common substances that these tests will search for is THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana and hemp. For people who use CBD oil, the big question is, will it cause them to fail a drug test? The Results are In Can You Test Positive For CBD?- NO Drug tests aren’t looking for CBD, so having it in your system is perfectly fine. You will not test positive for CBD in your system. Can You Test Positive From CBD- MAYBE It is possible- though incredibly unlikely- that taking CBD oil will leave enough trace THC in your system for you to test positive for THC. HOWEVER! You have to take an excessively high dose of CBD oil for that to even be possible. Leafly.com reports that an individual taking an unusually high dose of 1000mg- 2000mg CBD oil daily could theoretically test “falsely positive” for THC, if they’re taking CBD oil that meets the national requirement of less than .3% THC. Even More Unlikely Grassroots CBD regularly tests around .16% THC, well below the national requirement of less than .3% THC. So, theoretically, you’d have to take even more than 2000mg daily to…

Hydrology9- The Best of Both Worlds

About five years ago, the search ‘dry herb vapes’ first appeared on Google Trends. Since then, dry herb vapes have only gotten more popular. In five years, dry herb vapes have revolutionized the smoking industry by providing a healthier alternative. Major improvements in vaping have happened over the years, and the Hydrology9 might be the new pinnacle of vaping innovation. The Benefits of Vapes Vapes heat a substance to its vaporization point instead of burning it. This eliminates almost all of the health risks associated with smoking. While vaping isn’t harmless, a 2015 report commissioned by England’s Public Health Department concluded that vaping was 95% less harmful than cigarettes! With all of the evidence pointing in favor of vaping, it seems like it won’t be going away anytime soon. The Benefits of Water Pipes Water pipes, on the other hand, have a long history of popularity in the smoking industry. You could even say that before there were vapes, there were water pipes, because they were popular for the same reasons. Water pipes also minimize the health risks associated with smoking, although not as effectively. The smoke is forced to filter through water, removing some of the carcinogens before they’re inhaled. This also cools…

Opioid Crisis ‘a National Emergency’

Last month, President Trump made an announcement during his working vacation in New Jersey addressing the nation’s opioid crisis.  Trump stated it would be necessary to declare the opioid epidemic a national emergency after receiving feedback from his appointed commission of health officials. This is the first time Trump has declared a national emergency since taking office, although national emergencies aren’t as rare as one might expect! Counting the newly declared emergency, there are 29 national emergencies currently in effect. The other 28 have been continuously renewed from past presidencies. Declaring a national emergency should ensure that “a lot of time, a lot of effort, and a lot of money,” is spent on the opioid crisis, according to Trump. What will happen when words are put into motion? The secretary for health and human services has said that declarations of a national emergency are typically saved “for a specific outbreak of an infectious disease… or a specific location, like Hurricane Sandy,” to quickly funnel government money where aid is needed most (nytimes.com). So, theoretically, declaring the opioid crisis a national epidemic should have a similar effect. Federal resources, like disaster relief funds, would be easily available to areas hit hardest by the opioid…

Herbalism and Herbal Medicine Throughout the Ages

Austin Vape and Smoke is proud to carry our own line of herbal alternatives to pharmaceutical solutions: Professor Whyte’s kratom, CBD oil, lotion, crumble, and edibles. Herbal medicine and herbalism have a long history, and AVS is excited to tap into this wealth of knowledge to provide you with superior products.   Ancient Roots Many ancient cultures like the Chinese, Indians, Babylonians, Egyptians, and Native Americans practiced herbalism, or the study and use of plants as medicine. The earliest document recording herbal traditions is Chinese and dates from 3000 B.C. Much later, surgeons traveling with the Roman army spread their knowledge of herbalism throughout the Roman empire. For a while, herbalism was practiced strictly by those trained to be physicians, with ‘physic gardens’ dedicated to growing useful, medicinal herbs. Then, in the mid 1500’s, the introduction of the printing press meant that copies of medical texts became available outside of palaces, monasteries, and universities. Now, anyone could practice herbalism with ease by collecting plants and using methods their copies told them to.   The ‘Doctrine of Signatures’ As time went on, different theories of herbalism emerged. In the fifteen and sixteen hundreds, the ‘doctrine of signatures’ was the reigning theory. According to the ‘doctrine of signatures’, a plant’s…

So, Your City Banned Public Vaping: What it means for Austin’s vapers

A week ago, Austin City Council members voted unanimously to include e-cigarettes in the citywide ordinance that bans smoking from public places. Bars and restaurants around town had expressed uncertainty as to whether or not their patrons should be allowed to vape in their establishments, and this law answers that uncertainty with a resounding ‘no’. Advocates of the council’s move see e-cigarettes and the vapor they produce as potentially harmful, citing a lack of scientific evidence on the safety of vaping.   To actual vapers, the news is a bit of a blow. Many Austinites trying to quit and stay off of cigarettes have switched to vaping, and credit e-cigarettes with improving their health and quality of life. In an Austin American-Statesman article, the president of the Texas E-Cigarette and Vaping Association Charlie Hodge said the move was “deadly”, and that it would discourage people from quitting cigarettes. While the ban makes vaping less convenient, it shouldn’t deter people from putting down cigarettes and picking up a vape- after all, the ban allows vaping everywhere cigarettes are allowed, so it shouldn’t discourage people from quitting at all.   Fear not, vapers of Austin- yes, the number of places you can vape has been restricted,…

Keeping it Weird: Hippie Culture in Austin

Austin’s been a bubble of blue in the great red sea of Texas for a while now, and the city’s liberal mentality has fostered a strong hippie culture that’s a huge part of why Austin is so well loved. Perhaps it’s because Austin is surrounded by red on all sides that the city’s inhabitants are so passionate about the counterculture hippie lifestyle, and have been for decades.     Austin’s hippie mentality is clearly seen by the things the city has held dear through the years, from celebrating Eeyore’s Birthday Party, a hippie bonanza that’s happened annually since 1963, with elaborate costumes, live music, and fun for all ages, to a city-wide obsession with the late Leslie Cochran, unofficial Queen of Austin, who paraded the city’s streets in stilettos and miniskirts and also ran for mayoral office (unsuccessfully) 3 times. Although Leslie’s bid for office was unsuccessful, he was embraced by the city and continues to be remembered dearly. One of Austin’s hippie meccas is the aptly named Hippie Hollow, a park and swimming area that’s clothing optional- an appealing option to some of Austin’s hippie crew, and a locale that embodies the Austin spirit. With Austin growing so quickly, refuges like Hippie Hollow…

The Trouble With Tolerance: Tips and Tricks to Avoiding Kratom Tolerance (While Still Having Fun)

What’s the Deal? As many of our kratoms customers might know (and many new users may not), frequent kratom use can cause your body to build up a tolerance to its effects, meaning you may no longer notice the amazing energy boost or pain relief you used to, or you might have to take quite a bit more kratom to get the same results. Why Does Tolerance Happen? Kratom alkaloids are processed by brain receptors, and over time these receptors become used to the alkaloids and are no longer stimulated by them, which is what causes tolerance. Different types of kratom will contain different alkaloids, so tolerance grows more quickly if you use one type of kratom exclusively. Even our blends of kratom, Euphoria, Uplift, and Calm, which are formulated to be as effective as possible, will eventually cause you to build a tolerance if you use one blend exclusively. How Can We Avoid Tolerance? One direct method for reducing kratom tolerance is to limit usage of it altogether, however for many daily or frequent kratom users this method obviously doesn’t provide a solution. Is there an option that allows frequent kratom use and a lower tolerance, you ask? Why yes! The easiest way to combat tolerance…
