What is Hemp Oil Extract?
CBD, the active component to our Hemp Oil Extract, is an abbreviation for cannabidiol, which is the major non-psychoactive cannabinoid derived from the hemp plant. CBD has many holistic benefits that have been reported in a variety of clinical studies and continues to amaze as we discover more.
In its most recent form, cannabidiol was discovered by accident when several cannabis growers in northern California found several strains that were high in this compound. Prior to this discovery, cannabis has mostly been cultivated for its psychotropic effects.
It is important to note that CBD, or cannabidiol, does not produce the psychotropic effects typically associated with cannabis. The ‘high’ feeling comes from another compound, THC. CBD rich cannabis is known for having beneficial effects, pain relief and anxiety relief to name a few, without the ‘high’ feeling because THC levels are too low. Many users report an enhanced effect when they use CBD and THC together, but most of the beneficial effects can be attained by using CBD alone. The first strain to popularize the use of CBD-rich cannabis was called Charlotte’s Web and was developed in Washington state to help a little girl named Charlotte Figi get her pervasive seizures under control. After Charlotte’s parents ran out of standard medical options to treat their daughter, they found the Stanley brothers who developed a proprietary strain of cannabis just to treat their daughter.
After the effects of CBD were identified, there was a rush in the cannabis industry to breed strains high in CBD and low in THC. Methods were even identified to extract the highest amount of CBD while excluding most of the THC from cannabis and hemp plants. The increasing popularity of CBD-rich cannabis and CBD extracts has created a gold rush of sorts, fueling cultivation and extraction of the highest quality, highest potency CBD products today. This burgeoning industry grows larger everyday as more people find the effects that CBD has on them.
Where Does CBD Come From?
CBD was first discovered in cannabis, but with the growing demand for CBD in forms that are legal in states without medical marijuana, CBD derived from hemp was developed. This is especially important for people that want the effects of CBD but can not aquire high-CBD strains of marijuana in their state legally.
Hemp was legalized for industrial purposes and research under the Obama administration with the Farm Bill sec. 7606. This made hemp distinct from marijuana and allowed companies to legally grow and extract CBD in the United States. Though cannabis has higher concentrations of CBD than hemp, CBD can still be extracted from hemp and refined in such a way to get high enough doses to see the effects. This also allowed companies to get high concentrations of CBD with the absolute minimum amount of THC possible. The legal limit for THC in a bottle of CBD is less than 0.3% which gives the added benefit of making it unlikely to test positive for marijuana on a drug test. It is still best practice to avoid the use of CBD if you are going to be taking a drug test due to variation in sensitivity of testing equipment and variation of THC in different companies CBD products. Grassroots CBD consistently tests below the required legal limit at only 0.18% on average.
What are the Effects of CBD?
CBD is a non-intoxicating component of the cannabis plant that many people have said gives them health benefits. Though CBD’s effects haven’t officially been studied by the FDA, user reports are very promising. Even though some users claim it helps them with the aforementioned conditions, everyone will react differently and taking CBD doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you.
