Hug Life is an Austin glassblower we’ve been proud to carry at our Westgate Glass Gallery for a while now. The Silver & Gold Fumed Spoon is one of those pieces that earns a longer look — silver and gold fuming works vaporized metals into the glass during the blowing process, producing a color-shifting iridescent finish that moves with the light. Because it’s worked in by hand, every piece reads a little differently.

We carry two variants. The standard fumed spoon has a polished finish that lets the color come through fully. The sandblasted version has a frosted matte exterior that softens both the texture and the appearance of the fuming — a different feel in the hand and a quieter look overall. Neither is better; it comes down to preference.
