THC & CBD Cart Clogging and Leaking: How to Fix It (and Avoid It)

You’re finally home after a long day at work. Ready to wind down, you reach for your THC pen and take a drag… nothing. Zero airflow. Frustrating, right? Or maybe it’s the other annoying scenario: you grab your battery and it’s covered in sticky residue from a leaking cart. Clogging and leaking are both common issues with THC and CBD carts and disposables. Luckily, we’ve got tips to fix it, or better yet, stop it from happening in the first place. 

1. Warm Up the Pen:

Before taking a hit, try warming up the vape pen by taking a few short puffs to help liquefy the thickened concentrate oil. 

Alternatively, if your device has a pre-heat function, this is the perfect time to use it!

 2. Store Your Cart or Disposable Vertically:

Always store your disposable or cart + battery combo in an upright position. Storing it upside down or on its side can lead to the oil settling in the mouthpiece or airflow holes.

If your vape isn’t able to stand on its own, use a small cup or a pen holder! 

3. Avoid Overheating and Overdrawing:

Overheating the vape pen can cause the oil to become too thin. Drawing too hard or too frequently can flood the coil. Combine the two, and it only gets worse.

Take slow and steady draws with breaks in between to allow the device to cool down.

Pro-Tip: Overcharging can also lead to overheating. We personally recommend only charging your disposable device for up to an hour at a time. For cart + battery combos, we recommend removing the cart while charging.  

4. Check for Clogged Airflow Vents:

Ensure that the airflow vents are not blocked. 

Clean the airway with a thin tool or a gentle puff of air to remove any blockages.

5. Gently Clean the Mouthpiece:

If you notice clogs in the mouthpiece, clean it gently with a cotton swab dipped in ISO, a toothpick, or a pipe cleaner. 

Be careful not to push any debris further into the pen, as this can worsen the clogging.

Pro-Tip: Keep the silicone mouthpiece cap that came with your device and use it when you’re not vaping to keep debris out!

6. Avoid Extreme Temperatures (#1 Leak Causer)

Extreme temperatures can impact the viscosity of the oil, causing leaks. Store your carts and disposables in a cool, stable environment, away from direct sunlight (and your car!). 

7. Check for Damaged Seals:

Inspect the device for any damaged or missing seals, which can lead to leaks. If you find any issues, consider replacing the cartridge.

8. Keep the Connection Clean (Cart + Battery Combo):

Ensure the connection between the cartridge and the battery is clean and free from any residue. Wipe it with a cotton swab dipped in ISO when needed.
